Lebanese olive oil is eligible for duty-free entry to the EU member states under the signed Free Trade Agreement between Lebanon and the EU. However, many olive oil importers in European countries complain that in practice this is never the case and Lebanese olive oil is subject to high tariff rates during custom clearance. Dr. Saadallah Zaiter investigates the case to understand what is happening and reveals in this article what Lebanese exporters and foreign importers should do to benefit from the zero custom duties and make Lebanese olive oil competitive in terms of price in Europe.
